NHL Rumours: Dallas Stars Pending RFA Contract Update

Another NHL rumor edition is about to air. Training camps are underway, and agreements are being inked. It is possible that players are still getting used to their first few practices.

Nonetheless, a large portion of the summer has seen general managers in action. Key restricted free agents have been the focus of many executives’ efforts to sign them.

In this installment of NHL rumors, we examine the Dallas Stars’ intention to follow suit with one of their key players.

All NHL rumors are based on reliable sources and could be updated at any time.

Analysis: Oettinger has established himself as the Stars’ legitimate starter, and general manager Jim Nill wants to look after his goalie. The 25-year-old is in the final year of a $4 million contract. He will, however, probably benefit from a respectable wage increase.

If he stays healthy, the Lakeville, Minnesota native is expected to rank among the top five fantasy hockey goalies. He will be a key player in Dallas’ Stanley Cup challenge.

Rea did note, though, that Nill is waiting to make a decision until after a few contracts have concluded. The Stars and Oettinger’s team haven’t taken their game seriously. However, after a few things are in order, discussions may start in earnest.
